The number of sessions varies enormously and depends on what issues you bring, and we will discuss this at your first session. Generally, people feel they have been helped from anywhere between 3 and 12 sessions. Some are less and some people require more. It is for the individual to know and lead this. We can keep reviewing this if you wish to. Most people start with weekly sessions and may convert to fortnightly and eventually monthly check-in appointments. But again, you tell me what you need.
I take your confidentiality very seriously, and this will be discussed with you at our first meeting. I have more information on the Working Agreement which I email out on initial enquiry.
What happens in the counselling session with Julie?
We meet at the agreed date and time and discuss what you wish to bring to the session, and we chat in a conversational style free of judgement and my aim is to help you feel safe and secure to talk about what you need to. We may just talk or we may look at helpful information sheets or worksheets if you wish to. Some clients like to be creative in the sessions so I can bring in creative strategies using pens/paper and art materials if the client is arty and enjoys being creative. If not we can just be chatting in a relaxed way.
I work with children and teenagers and if you are a parent arranging appointments I will take your contact details and email you information on making payment, and an information sheet for parents explaining how I work. I also work face to face with individuals and couples. I will email everyone my assessment form, working agreement and risk assessment and no secrets policy (for couples). I request these are emailed back to me before the first session.
My online practice – I will email the relevant assessment forms to be completed and emailed back to me. Once your payment has been received I will email out the zoom link for our session online. Zoom is secure and I also send a working agreement which include my terms of working using zoom.
About Julie
Julie has been offering her counselling service for over 16 years and offers both zoom video calls and in-person appointments in central Cheltenham.
