Supporting Connection, Understanding, and Growth
“You love each other, but it feels like you’re speaking different languages. I’m here to help you feel heard, seen, and reconnected.” Julie Wales

Understanding Neurodiverse Relationships: Working with Neurodiverse Couples
When one or both partners are neurodivergent—whether autistic, ADHD, or have other unique brain wiring—it can bring beautiful strengths as well as unique challenges to the relationship. But often, traditional couples therapy doesn’t understand these dynamics.
You might notice:
Differences in emotional expression or communication
A constant feeling of “missing each other” emotionally
One partner feeling hurt, unseen, or emotionally disconnected
The other partner feeling like they’re always getting it wrong or overwhelmed
Many neurodiverse couples I work with tell me:
“We love each other—but we’re stuck.”
The neurotypical partner may feel emotionally isolated or frustrated. The neurodivergent partner may feel criticised, misunderstood, or emotionally overloaded.
Through a compassionate and neuro-affirming approach, I help couples:
Understand each other’s communication styles
Explore attachment patterns and relationship needs
Rebuild trust and practical ways to connect
Reduce resentment, shutdown, and emotional fatigue
What Each Partner Might Be Feeling
Neurotypical Partner
Feels emotionally unseen or unheard
Frustrated or walking on eggshells
Longing for more connection
Neurodivergent Partner
Feels constantly criticised or confused
Overwhelmed or shut down
Struggling with emotional cues
I support both of you to understand each other — without blame or shame.
